Background: This Bay Area woman had a very active social life in the San Francisco area. Busy and on the go, she occasionally stopped to look in the mirror. More and more she began to notice wrinkles between her eyebrows. The wrinkles were so deep; they were actually grooves that were present even when she wasn't frowning.
Dr. Mabrie's Assessment: Wrinkles between the eyebrows are very responsive to Botox. These can be thought of as wrinkles of aggression and we really don't need that 'look'. I really enjoy zapping them. Occasionally, someone will have wrinkles so prominent that we need combination therapy, with Botox to relax the wrinkle causing muscles and Restylane to fill in the grooves.
Treatment: 20 Units of Botox to the corrugator muscles under eyebrows and 1/2 syringe of Restylane under wrinkles.
Follow-Up: Another case in the win column! The nice thing about combination treatment is that after one or two treatments with Restylane, if the Botox is continued, the grooves disappear and the Restylane is no longer needed. Recent studies have shown that Restylane has some semi-permanent effects.
