Interested in JUVÉDERM?
You started hearing the buzz about facial rejuvenation with dermal fillers some time ago. You know they’re injectable, you know they’re safe and effective, but the rest is understandably confusing. How many are there? Do they all work exactly the same way? What about the new one you just read about – JUVÉDERM? San Francisco facial plastic surgeon Dr. David Mabrie can help answer these questions and develop a personalized treatment plan just for you.
What Is JUVÉDERM?
JUVÉDERM is a gel-like dermal filler used to diminish wrinkles by filling in underneath the skin, forming a strong support structure for facial skin just like you had when you were younger. Similar in composition to Restylane®, the product is based on hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that adds both volume and moisture to your skin from within.
Developed by the same company that created BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM offers a smooth consistency and a natural look and feel when injected. And not only is it FDA-approved, it’s approved for all skin types and colors.
JUVÉDERM is often used to minimize naso-labial folds, or the wrinkles commonly referred to as “parentheses” around the mouth. It can also be used to sculpt facial features like the cheeks and chin, or to refine the nose during a non-surgical nose job. And JUVÉDERM is effective in filling lip wrinkles, augmenting lips and reducing the appearance of scars.
How Long Does JUVÉDERM Last?
Depending the treatment area, JUVÉDERM produces results that can last from 6 to 12 months.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Dermal fillers have minimal side effects. However, some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as bruising, which is seen in about 20% of patients.Additionally, following the injection there may be swelling, which resolves within a day or two. For additional information, read what to expect during and after your treatment.
For a gentler injection procedure, Dr. Mabrie offers the innovative microcannula injection method. These blunt-ended microcannulas cut fewer arteries and veins than needles, resulting in significantly less after-treatment bruising and swelling. The microcannula technique is available upon request.
Out of 2,000 nominees in the U.S., Dr. Mabrie was voted one of the Top 25 Most Loved Injectors for 2017 by the RealSelf community. Thanks to all our amazing patients for making him the only injector in the Bay Area to receive this honor.
What Are the Differences Between Restylane®, RADIESSE® and JUVÉDERM?
Restylane, RADIESSE and JUVÉDERM are all known as “dermal fillers.”In principle they work in the same way: they’re injected beneath wrinkles and hollows caused by environmental damage and collagen breakdown associated with the natural aging process. They rejuvenate your look by supporting facial skin to lie flat and smooth again. All three are eventually absorbed into the body harmlessly.
Dr. Mabrie also uses another dermal filler called JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC that has many of the same advantages. However, it’s formulated as a thicker hyaluronic acid gel, making it more durable and appropriate for larger areas such as the cheeks and chin.
There are subtle differences between the products.Differences in active ingredients, manufacturing process and more mean that each one has its advantages in different applications.Dr. Mabrie will determine which products will address your individual needs.
What Are the Differences Between Dermal Fillers and BOTOX Cosmetic?
Our skin loses volume as we age. Dermal fillers are designed to replace the foundation under your skin and support sunken areas to smooth out skin, making it look young again.
BOTOX Cosmetic works on wrinkles called “dynamic wrinkles.”These lines and folds – most often on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes – are caused by repeated facial action.BOTOX Cosmetic injections relax the muscles causing these wrinkles, erasing the look of frown lines, worry lines and crow’s feet.
