Energizing the Eyes
Your eyes often begin showing signs of aging earlier than other areas of the face, which is why enhancing the eye area with fillers like RADIESSE® and Restylane®, is so popular at Dr. Mabrie’s San Francisco practice. Concerns like dark circles, bags, and drooping can creep up on you as early as your 20s or 30s, detracting from one of your face’s most alluring features. Fortunately, the skilled use of today’s remarkable dermal fillers can correct all of these things, restoring a vibrant appearance and enhancing the overall attractiveness of your face.
Seeing is Believing
For most women, makeup is the quick-fix for bags and circles and for generally enhancing the look of the eyes. With a doctor's understanding of the physiology, and an artist's understanding of light and shadows, Dr. Mabrie can do what no amount of makeup can to make your eyes look younger and more beautiful.
Nothing can add years to your appearance like bags and dark circles under the eyes. Heavy eyelids are another culprit, creating a perpetually tired look. Men have traditionally accepted the fatigued appearance — even when it appears relatively early in life. That's changing, as an increasing number of men now understand that injectables can help them look more youthful and refreshed.

The Eyes and the Aging Face
The skin beneath the eyes is very thin and gets even thinner with age. Blood vessels and muscles beneath the eyes may appear as dark circles. There may also be an indentation–the tear trough–which creates a shadow. That shadow is intensified if “bags” of fat have formed under the eye, creating greater contrast between the areas of light and shadow.
The secret to restoring vibrant, youthful looking eyes is to create an even, smooth under-eye area with minimal shadows. Dr. Mabrie does this using one of several long–lasting dermal filler options. Using highly refined injection techniques, Dr. Mabrie fills in the indentations and minimizes the appearance of bags and shadows under the eyes.
Shadows/dark circles under the eyes may be caused by indentation in the skin at the transition area between the eyes and cheeks. Fillers may be placed the make this area smooth, decreasing the shadows.
Bags under the eyes are usually caused by severe shadows under the eyes and lack of support to the skin. Most cases are improved with fillers under the eyes and cheeks. Occasionally lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is required to remove bulging fat.
Crow’s feet are wrinkles at the corner of the eyes caused by folding of the skin with smiling or squinting. They can either be charming or a sign of an aging face. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®reduce these wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the muscle under the skin in this area.
Heavy Upper Eyelids
Mild cases of heavy upper eyelids may be treated by elevating the brows with BOTOX or Dysport.
Size and Spacing
Not everyone is blessed with the large, wide eyes that studies show are associated with beauty. Dr. Mabrie has mastered techniques that can open up the eye area and create the illusion of larger, more youthful eyes.
Softly arched brows help to make the eyes look larger and more youthful. When the forehead is smooth and relaxed and free from a frowning appearance, the eyes tend to look more wide-set and alert. These changes can be made quickly and easily through the skillful injection of BOTOX or Dysport.
Choose a Skilled Injector
For a gentler injection procedure, Dr. Mabrie offers the innovative microcannula injection method. These blunt-ended microcannulas cut fewer arteries and veins than needles, resulting in significantly less after-treatment bruising and swelling. The microcannula allows Dr. Mabrie to restore volume to even the delicate under-eye area in a way that appears natural.
Does treatment hurt?
Dr. Mabrie does several things to make sure your treatment is comfortable. He uses a local anesthetic to partially numb the treatment area prior to injection. He also uses fillers that come pre-mixed with anesthetic. Perhaps most importantly, he uses blunt-tipped microcannulas which minimize trauma to the blood vessels and tissues, and produce less bruising and swelling after treatment.
Are there any negative side effects from fillers?
Side effects from dermal fillers are similar to those of BOTOX injections. Some common injection-related reactions such as edema, swelling, bruising, pain, itching, discoloration, and tenderness at the injection site may occur. For additional information, read what to expect during and after your treatment.
How long will my results last?
Results appear immediately and will generally last anywhere from 6 months to a year, depending on the filler used. Dr. Mabrie typically performs touch-up treatments at regular intervals to keep your results looking fresh.
