Creating a Youthful Brow
Sometimes the first signs of aging are drooping eyebrows and wrinkles around the eyes, between the brows, and on the forehead. In fact, these issues often appear when we are as young as our 20s or 30s. Although it’s not unusual, it can be frustrating. Dr. Mabrie and his associates use dermal fillers and BOTOX® at his San Francisco Bay Area practice as nonsurgical solutions for signs of aging around the eyes and forehead.
Seeing is Believing
Part of what brings the eyes to life is the expressiveness of the brows. Through your brows, you convey surprise, flirtation, suspicion, and many other emotions. Unfortunately, aging can etch a permanent frown on your forehead. Dr. Mabrie can restore youthfulness and attractiveness to your brow with BOTOX or Dysport injections.
Eyebrows are an important feature when it comes to appearing expressive, alert, and youthful. Prominent, heavier brows convey masculinity, but there is a fine line between eyebrows that look masculine and those that look droopy. And forehead lines can age you and make you look stern. Dr. Mabrie can improve the look of this area with BOTOX or Dysport injections.

The Forehead and the Aging Face
A smooth, unlined forehead is a hallmark of youth and attractiveness. But a lifetime of expressions leaves its mark in the form of vertical frown lines, horizontal forehead furrows, and drooping brows. These can cause you to look stern, sad–even unapproachable–although you feel happy and relaxed.
Dr. Mabrie is a master of injectable treatments to alleviate signs of aging in this part of the face. In many cases, the skillful use of Dysport® or BOTOX Cosmetic does the trick, taking years off of your appearance and bringing back your youthful brow. BOTOX is injected into the facial muscles that contract during facial expressions. The purified protein in BOTOX blocks nerve signals to the muscle, causing it to relax and allowing the skin to lie flat.
In the case of deeper lines, Dr. Mabrie may suggest one of the many dermal filler options he offers to bring back the smoother looking skin that we associate with youth and attractiveness.
Horizontal forehead lines or furrows can become deeply etched, and contribute to an aged appearance. They are caused by the skin folding that occurs when the brows are elevated. Dr. Mabrie uses a conservative approach in treating forehead wrinkles, as aggressive use of BOTOX in these muscles can produce drooping eyebrows.
If lines have become deeply etched in the forehead, Dr. Mabrie may use JUVÉDERM or Restylane injections to smooth the skin from underneath.
These are the vertical lines between the eyebrows, sometimes called “elevens.” These glabellar lines can cause an angry appearance, sometimes described as a permanent frown. Dr. Mabrie uses BOTOX and Dysport to disable the 3 strong muscles that cause these lines.
While heavy, sagging brows tend to convey fatigue, anger and other negative emotions, overly arched or lifted brows can have a similarly off–putting effect. Studies show that softly arched brows – positioned to frame the eyes and complement them – are a key component of attractiveness. However, men tend to have heavier brows than women, and this look is considered a masculine trait.
Dr. Mabrie keeps this in mind when he is helping his patients to determine their ideal brow position. For those whose brows have just begun to droop and may be detracting from the eyes, he may use injectables to create a slight lift in the brow.
BOTOX can be used to elevate the brows, creating the effect of a subtle brow lift. As a highly skilled injector, Dr. Mabrie uses BOTOX to disable the brow depressor muscles, letting the brow elevator muscles naturally elevate the brow. This opens up the eye area, and creates a more youthful appearance. For many women and men, this subtle “chemical brow lift” eliminates the need for more drastic surgical procedures.
Choose a Skilled Injector
Our patients often comment on celebrities with “frozen” faces like Jack Nicholson and Nicole Kidman – and they are very clear that they want to avoid this overdone look. A natural look is possible, but only if you choose a skilled injector for your BOTOX treatment. At his practice in San Francisco, Dr. Mabrie uses the specialized technique required to improve wrinkles without compromising facial expressions.
How long do BOTOX results last?
BOTOX and Dysport results typically last about 3 to 4 months. However, studies have shown that over time, the duration of results increases with regularly scheduled treatments.
How much does BOTOX treatment cost?
Dr. Mabrie’s consultation fee is $300, and the cost of your BOTOX and Dysport treatment depends largely on how much product is required for your treatment starts at $360 per area. Filler prices vary by area, and you can review a complete list on our Fees & Financing page.
Are BOTOX & Dysport safe?
These botulinum-based products have a very extensive safety record. Not only has BOTOX Cosmetic been FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles since 2002, BOTOX has actually been used medically since the 1960s for conditions like muscle spasms and misalignment of the eyes (strabismus). Additionally, the extremely low volumes of neurotoxin used for cosmetic purposes make the risk of negative health effects practically zero.
Will my forehead look “surprised” or tight after BOTOX?
The surprised, tight look is typically the result of an aggressive surgical brow lift. The beauty of using injectables is that your results should look natural and subtle. Dr. Mabrie takes a conservative approach to BOTOX and Dysport injections, with the understanding that he can always “build” on your results at future touch-up appointments. This is all part of his unique treatment process, Illumination 360°.
