Background:  This San Francisco patient was unhappy with her profile and wanted to address her low nasal bridge. She consulted with Dr. Mabrie about both surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty options.

Dr. Mabrie's Assessment:  “I began treating this patient many years ago when I offered both surgical and non-surgical rhinoplasty procedures. During her initial consultation, we discussed how we could significantly improve her profile by augmenting her low nasal bridge. Although invasive surgery was an option, she preferred the non-surgical method of using a dermal filler, such as Restylane, to obtain instantaneous results.”

Procedure: For her initial treatment, one syringe of Radiesse was used to build the nasal bridge and improve her overall profile. She was so happy with the outcome that a year later we attempted a more permanent result with Artefill. However, even after multiple treatments, we were still unable to obtain the same quality of nasal bridge augmentation due to Artefill's softer consistency. For the last few years, she has been treated with Restylane to the nasal bridge at 9-12 month intervals.

Follow-Up: We are both very pleased with her results using Restylane! We usually see each other once a year for touch-ups to the nose, under eyes, and cheeks.

This case shows how my practice has progressed from augmenting the nose with invasive surgery and irreversible dermal fillers (i.e. Radiesse and Artefill), to non-surgical rhinoplasty treatments with Restylane. I prefer Restylane because it is firm enough to give great cosmetic results in the nasal bridge, yet gentle enough to treat the nasal tip. The results are long-lasting after 2-3 treatments (usually 6-18 months), and the filler is always reversible should an adverse reaction occur.
