In Our Patient's Own Words
Recently, one of our San Francisco patients sent us her thoughts and feelings about her experience with Dr. Mabrie:
"Dr. David Mabrie is as skilled a plastic surgeon as I have ever seen. His results are quite simply spectacular. His concern and care for his patients are legendary. I've recommended four people to his office, and all of them are as pleased as I am."
Best, Melanie

A Word on Featherlifts and Threadlifts
Lately, there has been an extreme amount of media attention focused on "featherlifts" and "threadlifts," and Bay Area residents are naturally intrigued. These new techniques work by inserting several threads into the face and "lifting" the skin from within. The threads are left in-place and anchor the skin in position. Although the threads are effective in lifting facial skin, the results achieved are typically short-lived and half as dramatic as the typical surgical outcome. Costs for threadlifts are equal to or more expensive than some face lift procedures. Based on the information available to date, traditional surgery, with its long-lasting results and comparable fee, may be a better option. A short-incision face lift can accomplish noticeable changes with less downtime than a traditional face lift, is "pony-tail" friendly, and provides results that will last longer than threads.
Getting Started
The best way to get started is through research and consultation. The Internet is a great place to begin your quest. Also, consider referrals from your doctor, family and friends. Finding a doctor you trust and with whom you can communicate is fundamental to the success of your surgery.
Once you schedule a consultation with a surgeon, here are four important questions to consider:
- Does your surgeon specialize is facial cosmetic surgery? Some surgeons specialize in body liposuction, tummy tucks and breast augmentation more than facial procedures, while others may do a little of everything. Ask your surgeon how often he or she performs facial procedures before moving ahead.
- View examples of the surgeon's previous work. Artistic expression is a big component of facial plastic surgery. You want to make sure you and your surgeon are on the same page.
- What type of face lift surgery is right for you? Discuss your goals and ideas thoroughly with your surgeon. Is a face lift the right procedure for you? Should it be done in conjunction with other procedures, such as cheek or chin augmentation, to achieve the best overall results? Does your surgeon perform these other surgeries on a regular basis?
- Does your surgeon offer computer imaging? This is one of the best tools available to help you visualize your goals and communicate with your doctor. Computer imaging should be used during your consultation to ensure effective communication between your surgeon and you.
