Volume loss is arguably the biggest factor in facial aging. It causes lines, hollows, sagging, jowls, and loss of definition. If you’ve ever wished you could get back some of the volume your face has lost over time, Sculptra Aesthetic might be just what you’re looking for. Sculptra is an innovative injectable treatment that helps you achieve a natural-looking, refreshed appearance by stimulating the body’s own collagen production. Used alone or in combination with fillers and neuromodulators, Sculptra can be a great tool for revealing your best you.

What Is Sculptra Aesthetic?

Sculptra Aesthetic is an FDA-approved injectable volumizer made up of poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is a biocompatible, biodegradable substance that has been used safely in medical products for decades. Sculptra is different from hyaluronic acid fillers such as JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, which add immediate volume and lift to treated areas. Sculptra is used to address facial wrinkles and fine lines by stimulating the body to gradually replace lost collagen, which helps to restore a youthful, natural-looking appearance over time.

How Does Sculptra Work?

The active ingredient in Sculptra Aesthetic is poly-L-lactic acid, which, when injected into the skin, triggers the body’s natural healing response. This stimulates the production of collagen—a protein that gives skin its structure and elasticity. Most patients will need a series of 2 to 4 treatments, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.

As we age, we naturally lose collagen, which can lead to wrinkles, loss of definition, and sagging skin. By promoting collagen growth, Sculptra Aesthetic helps to restore volume, smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, and improve skin texture and firmness. The results of Sculptra Aesthetic treatments develop over 4 to 6 weeks, and last up to 2 years.

What Is Sculptra Used For?

Sculptra Aesthetic is commonly used to treat wrinkles and volume loss in the cheeks, temples, and chin. It can also be used to address nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and can be used as part of a Full Face Rejuvenation. Sculptra is FDA-approved for the correction of lipoatrophy or facial wasting—a condition where illness or genetics cause loss of the fat beneath the skin, resulting in a gaunt or hollowed appearance.

How Much Does Sculptra Cost in the San Francisco Bay Area?

The price of Sculptra injections is the same as our other fillers, and is dependent on the amount of product used, the number of treatment areas, and the Injector. Prices are subject to change, so please call or check our Procedure Pricing page for current pricing.

What To Expect From Your Sculptra Injection Appointment

One of our expert Injectors will meet with you to plan your Sculptra injections, which may be part of a larger treatment plan. During the procedure, your Injector introduces the PLLA filler into the targeted area using a fine needle or flexible cannula. To ensure optimal results, we may recommend a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart. While the procedure typically takes about 30 minutes to complete, we ask that you set aside additional time for your consultation and the aftercare education we provide.

Most patients can return to their regular activities immediately after Sculptra injections. However, you may experience some mild redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site. These side effects typically subside within a few days.

How Many Sculptra Treatments Are Needed?

The number of treatments needed will depend on the individual patient and the severity of their wrinkles or hollow areas. Most patients will need a series of 2 to 4 treatments, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart.

How Long Does Sculptra Last?

Sculptra Aesthetic provides long-lasting results, with most patients seeing improvement for up to two years or more. Over time, the body gradually absorbs the poly-L-lactic acid, but periodic touch-up treatments will help you maintain the results.

Sculptra FAQs

Is Sculptra permanent?

No, Sculptra Aesthetic is not permanent. The results of Sculptra Aesthetic injections are long-lasting but not permanent because the poly-L-lactic acid particles in the filler are eventually absorbed by the body. However, Sculptra Aesthetic can provide results that last up to two years or more. Touch-up treatments may be needed over time to maintain the desired level of improvement.

How long does Sculptra take to work?

Results from Sculptra Aesthetic are gradual and may take several weeks to appear. Most patients see a noticeable improvement in their appearance after 6 weeks. It takes an average of 3 sessions over the course of about 3 to 4 months to achieve optimal results.

Is Sculptra safe?

Sculptra Aesthetic has been FDA-approved for use in the United States since 2009 and is considered safe when administered by a licensed and trained healthcare professional. Like all injectable treatments, it does carry some risks, including the possibility of infection, allergic reaction, or injection site reactions.
