What Is JUVÉDERM?
JUVÉDERM is a gel-like dermafiller used to diminish wrinkles by filling in underneath the skin, forming a strong support structure for facial skin just like you had when you were younger. Similar in composition to Restylane®, the product is based on hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that adds both volume and moisture for your skin from within.
Developed by the same company that created BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM offers a smooth consistency and a natural look and feel when injected. And not only is it FDA-approved, it's approved for all skin types and colors.
JUVÉDERM is often used to minimize naso-labial folds, or the wrinkles commonly referred to as "parentheses" around the mouth. It can also be used to sculpt facial features like cheeks and chins. And JUVÉDERM is effective in filling lip wrinkles, augmenting lips and reducing the appearance of scars.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Like the other leading dermafillers JUVÉDERM causes mild side effects in a minority of patients. The possibilities include redness, tenderness, swelling and bruising around the injection site. If these conditions occur, they are temporary. Best results are achieved when patients avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and sun for at least a day after your treatment.
What Are the Differences Between Restylane, Radiesse® and JUVÉDERM?
Restylane, Radiesse and JUVÉDERM are all known as "dermafillers." In principle they work in the same way: they're injected beneath wrinkles and hollows caused by environmental damage and collagen breakdown associated with the natural aging process. They rejuvenate your look by supporting facial skin to lie flat and smooth again. All three are eventually absorbed into the body harmlessly.
There are subtle differences between the products. Differences in active ingredients, manufacturing process and more mean that each one has its advantages in different applications. Dr. Mabrie will determine which products will address your individual needs.
What Are the Differences Between Dermafillers and BOTOX Cosmetic?
Our skin loses volume as we age. Dermafillers are designed to replace the foundation under your skin and support sunken areas to smooth out and look young again.
BOTOX Cosmetic works on wrinkles called "dynamic wrinkles." These lines and folds – most often on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes – are caused by repeated facial action. BOTOX Cosmetic injections relax the muscles causing these wrinkles, erasing the look of frown lines, worry lines and crow's feet.
