Background: This Bay Area woman had long noticed bags under her eyes. She had considered blepharoplasty in the past but had been reluctant, worried about possible complications. She consulted with Dr. Mabrie about cosmetic surgery options for her eyes.

Dr. Mabrie's Assessment:
Looking at the preoperative image, one may see that she has very prominent lower lid bags. This is caused by a protrusion of the fat beneath the eyes. We may improve the bags by removing the fat or by using Restylane filler to camouflage the groove between the bags and the face. I perform my lower lid blepharoplasty using a procedure called Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty which makes the incision inside the eyelid, with no scars on the face. This is particularly important in patients like this with dark skin where we want to avoid scars.

Procedure: Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty Surgery (Transconjunctival approach)

Follow-Up: We actually had to perform a revision because after her first surgery she had some residual fat. So we took her back a second time and removed the remainder of the fat. Dr. Mabrie’s philosophy is to be conservative because you can always do more if needed.
