Defining the Chin, Neck, and Jaw
A strong chin and streamlined lower face are important elements of attractiveness, adding definition, creating symmetry, and bringing balance to facial features. For individuals who need more definition in this area, Dr. Mabrie performs nonsurgical chin augmentation in San Francisco using injectable dermal fillers. He also contours the neck and jaw using fillers and neurotoxins, and can slim the neck using KYBELLA injections.
Seeing is Believing
Based on what we now know about the principles of beauty, the chin is key to an attractive face. Ironically, the ideal chin doesn't attract any attention to itself at all. Its role in the attractiveness of your face is to bring balance to your features and profile. Dr. Mabrie specializes in subtle refinements that produce the ideal chin for your face.
A square, chiseled jawline and strong chin are key components of the attractive male face. Look at Hollywood's leading men and you'll see these timeless traits. An attractive male chin is prominent but not overly projected. It takes an experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Mabrie to understand how to strengthen the chin without creating an unnatural appearance.

Chin Augmentation and the Aging Face
Research shows that the standard for attractiveness in a chin is one that projects about 2 or 3 millimeters less than the tip of the nose. In women, the chin can project less and still be considered attractive, and in men, slightly more projection may be optimal. The key is that the chin does not draw attention, it simply makes the face look “right” or “normal.”
Recessed or “Weak” Chin
In many cases, a weak chin is something a person is born with. Dr. Mabrie performs nonsurgical chin augmentation for patients of all ages who want to improve their profile and bring balance to their facial features.
As we age, the mandible (jawbone) gets smaller, and we begin to lose fat around the mouth and chin. These gradual changes can cause marionette lines, thinning and wrinkling around the lips, and jowls, all of which obscure the chin. Injectable fillers can be placed both around the mouth and along the chin to add volume to the face and create a more youthful appearance.
No matter your age, if your main concern is excess fat on the neck that causes a double chin, you may be a better candidate for KYBELLA™. This injectable treatment eliminates fat from this area without surgery. Dr. Mabrie can recommend whether it’s right for you.
The Neck and Jaw and the Aging Face
This area often showcases several telltale signs of aging. The lower face tends to gain fullness over time as skin and fat descend and accumulate here, creating the triangular shape associated with age.
Wide Lower Face
A wide lower face can be the result of overdeveloped masseter muscles. This can throw the facial proportions out of harmony or masculinize a female face. Dr. Mabrie can reduce a wide lower face by injecting neurotoxins—such as BOTOX® or Dysport®—into the masseter muscles. When these muscles are relaxed, the lower face appears slimmer and more proportional.
Sagging along the jawline—referred to as jowling—is a dreaded hallmark of old age. Dr. Mabrie uses fillers to camouflage jowling by adding volume to the area between the jowl and chin to smooth the divot that makes the jowl so pronounced.
In nonsurgical chin augmentation, Dr. Mabrie places a dermal filler such as RADIESSE®, JUVÉDERM®, or JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC under the skin using a microcannula to add volume and projection to the chin. These are the same fillers he uses to create a cleaner, more streamlined jawline and reduce the appearance of jowls.
For lower face slimming, Dr. Mabrie will discuss with you which neurotoxin is best for your treatment, then he will carefully make a few targeted injections into the masseter muscles on both sides of the face. It takes a few days for the muscles to relax and for visible results to appear. Your jaw will still be fully functional, and you will be able to make all of your natural facial expressions.
How Long Will The Results Last?
Dr. Mabrie’s preferred filler is RADIESSE, which lasts up to 1 year with touch-ups at 6-month intervals. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC results can last up to 2 years. For patients who desire short-term results, Dr. Mabrie offers fillers such as Restylane® Lyft, which last up to 6 months with touch-ups at 3-month intervals. Neurotoxin results typically last 3 or 4 months.
How much does nonsurgical chin, neck, and jaw enhancement cost?
The fee for your initial visit is $300.00, which covers a comprehensive facial assessment, clinical photography, identification of your goals, and development of a personal treatment plan. In addition, you will be charged for the amount of filler used in your treatment. A 1.5 mL syringe of Radiesse costs $975, and more than one syringe may be required. What if I don’t like the results?
For patients who are not 100% sure about receiving fillers, Dr. Mabrie can inject saline into the chin to provide a 10-minute illustration of the potential filler results. Additionally, the fillers Dr. Mabrie uses for chin enhancement are all reversible, meaning he can reduce or erase your results if you change your mind.
