Defining the Chin, Jaw, & Neck With Fillers
A strong chin and streamlined lower face are important elements of attractiveness, adding definition, creating symmetry, and bringing balance to facial features. For individuals who desire more definition in this area, Dr. Mabrie performs nonsurgical chin augmentation in San Francisco using injectable dermal fillers. He can also contour the neck and jaw using fillers and neurotoxins, and slim the neck using KYBELLA® injections.
Seeing is Believing
Based on what we now know about the principles of beauty, the chin is key to an attractive face. Ironically, the ideal chin doesn't attract any attention to itself at all. Its role in the attractiveness of your face is to bring balance to your features and profile. Dr. Mabrie specializes in subtle to dramatic facial sculpting for your ideal chin and jawline.
A square, chiseled jawline and strong chin are key components of the attractive male face. Look at Hollywood's leading men and you'll see these timeless traits. An attractive male chin is prominent but not overly projected. It takes an experienced plastic surgeon such as Dr. Mabrie to understand how to strengthen the chin without creating an unnatural appearance.

What Area Do You Want to Improve?
Chin Enhancement & Facial Balance
A great chin is one component to frame your features. It can balance and harmonize your appearance. Combined with a great jawline, the chin can make a big impact on your profile—and your selfie game.
Recessed or Under Projected Chin
In many cases, an under projected chin is something a person is born with. Dr. Mabrie and our team of injectors perform nonsurgical chin augmentation for patients of all ages who want to improve their profile and bring balance to their facial features.
As we age, the mandible (jawbone) gets smaller, and we begin to lose fat around the mouth and chin. These gradual changes can cause marionette lines, thinning and wrinkling around the lips, and jowls, all of which obscure the chin. Injectable fillers can be placed both around the mouth and along the chin to add volume to the face and create a more youthful appearance.
A hyperactive mentalis muscle can cause the chin to appear less prominent than desired and create an unwanted dimpled look. Dr. Mabrie and our team of injectors use BOTOX® and Dysport® injections to relax the mentalis muscle, which causes in the chin to project more and create a more aesthetically pleasing profile view. Fillers combined with BOTOX for nonsurgical chin augmentation is very popular among both men and women.
Both women and men can benefit from cosmetic injectable treatments to create a contoured jawline that frames the face. Dr. Mabrie understands the nuance needed to distinguish the results for male and female patients. Contouring a man’s jaw using fillers involves creating angles and straight lines to enhance the patient’s bone structure. An attractive woman’s face is defined by gentle curves that feminize the face.
By combining fillers with masseter reduction using BOTOX®, Dr. Mabrie and our team of injectors can strengthen the jawline when viewed in profile. This can also create a more symmetrical, heart- or V-shaped appearance to the face for people whose faces have more of a square shape when viewed from the front.
Sagging along the jawline—referred to as jowling—is a dreaded hallmark of old age. Dr. Mabrie uses fillers to camouflage jowling by adding volume to the area between the jowl and chin to smooth the divot that makes the jowl so pronounced.
The angle and definition of the jaw plays an important role in facial harmony and attractiveness. Creating the balance between a well-defined jaw that isn’t overly prominent is something that both Dr. Mabrie and our injection team accomplish using neurotoxins (BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport®) for facial slimming.
When a jaw appears too prominent, it’s usually because of an overactive masseter muscle. This is the muscle used for chewing, biting, and clenching. Masseter reduction using BOTOX is ideal for patients who want facial slimming. Creating a slimmer jawline also results in enhancing the cheekbones and chin, giving them more prominence. This is especially important for women, who typically want high cheekbones and a clean jawline that softly curves to the point of the chin. Shaping the chin with filler also enhances the jaw angle, and is often done in combination with masseter reduction.
Definition & Enhancement
A well-defined jaw angle creates symmetry from the chin to frame the face. This filler treatment can shape, define, and enhance the lower facial contours. It also has the added benefit of decreasing the appearance of loose skin and the appearance of a double-chin when combined with chin augmentation. In men, this chiseling effect can be more dramatic. For women, depending on their desired facial shape, jaw angle contouring can range from soft to dramatic.
A sleek, youthful neck helps emphasize the definition of the jawline and highlights the chin. Many women and men notice the initial signs of aging in their necks, too, as lines develop and the skin begins to lose its elasticity. Fat also tends to begin accumulating below the chin as we age, although a double chin can be an inherited trait that can show up at any age.
Many patients can enhance the results of neck treatments with nonsurgical chin augmentation using cosmetic injectables. If you’re considering neck enhancement, you may want to start with the chin.
Younger patients whose skin retains most of its elasticity can see dramatic results from neck liposuction if they’re concerned about fat deposits in their necks. Liposuction is a straightforward procedure that’s less invasive than most plastic surgery operations. Dr. Mabrie makes a short incision just below the chin in a natural crease, where a scar will be virtually unnoticed. He then gently removes excess fat using a suction device and completes the procedure by closing the incision.
Excess fat below the chin that most people call a double chin is one of the primary cosmetic concerns of both men and women. KYBELLA is the first injectable treatment approved by the FDA to reduce the fat that causes the appearance of a double chin. It’s an excellent nonsurgical alternative to liposuction for many patients who come to our practice. The active ingredient in KYBELLA is a material called deoxycholic acid, which is produced naturally by the body to help break down and absorb dietary fat.
HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?
Dr. Mabrie’s preferred fillers are JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC and RADIESSE. RADIESSE lasts up to 1 year with touch-ups at 6-month intervals, and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC results can last up to 2 years. For patients who desire short-term results, Dr. Mabrie offers fillers such as Restylane® Lyft, which last up to 6 months with touch-ups at 3-month intervals. Neurotoxin results typically last 3 or 4 months.
HOW MUCH DOES NONSURGICAL CHIN, NECK, AND JAW ENHANCEMENT COST?
Our chin and jaw procedure costs $4,500 at Mabrie Facial Cosmetic. Our one-time initial examination fee is $300.00, which covers a comprehensive facial assessment, clinical photography, identification of your goals, and development of a personal treatment plan. Additional syringes of filler are priced at a discount ($500-$600) when the Refinement Treatment is scheduled within 1 to 2 months.
